Great Books Discussion Group is looking for new members!

 4th Saturday of each month, 10am - 12pm

Would you be interested in a Great Books Discussion Group? This group has been meeting monthly for more than three years in the library's Conference Room, usually on the  fourth Saturday of the month.

This excerpt is taken from the Great Books Foundation publication entitled, “How to Start a Great Books Discussion Group.” (www.greatbooks.org)

“Since 1947, … Great Books discussion group attracts people who want to talk about outstanding writings in history, literature, philosophy, politics, science, theology, and other disciplines. Although Great Books discussion groups have traditionally focused on works that have stood the test of time, many also explore contemporary writings that speak to the ideas that people find perennially compelling: the nature of justice, the ways of love, the meaning of truth, and the experience of beauty, among others.

But Great Books discussion groups are also defined by the way they approach these writings. We advocate the use of an approach to discussion called Shared InquiryTM, which follows a few simple guidelines designed to make a discussion more rewarding by keeping the group’s attention focused firmly on the text and its interpretation.”

Mystery Readers’ Roundtable

Tuesdays, Monthly, 3:00-4:00pm

Mystery Readers’ Roundtable is back. Once a month, fans of the mystery genre gather over hot drinks and share their favorite crime novels and good company. From the cozy confines of Great Britain to the rocky coast of California, we have explored means, motive, and opportunity. We have a few laughs, investigate themes, and sometimes visit some very dark places. Who knows where we’ll end up this year. If this sounds like your cup of tea (or coffee) come and join us. Registration is required. Please call 725-1727 or email tplinfo@topshamlibrary.org. It’s to die for.

Join Mary Ann every other week for coffee, conversation and a little extra TLC—TOPSHAM LIBRARY CARE. We will offer book suggestions, help you find what you are looking for (AND run and fetch it!), chat about great reads and share a morning of relaxed browsing and conversation.  For adults --especially those who need a little extra help getting around the library or finding just the right book!
