CREA(Cathance River Education Alliance) Presents:

Birds of Maine Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 6:30PM

Cosponsored by the Topsham Public Library and CREA(Cathance River Education Alliance)
the CREA PRESENTS Program continues!

Join us on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 6:30 PM for Birds of Maine with Shane Barker: Whether it is a black-capped chickadee at our backyard feeder or a high soaring osprey fishing along the coastline, birds are an intriguing animal. We will look at the wide variety of birds in our state, differences in habitat, density, seasonality, and how we benefit from this diversity. We’ll also look at what some Mainers are doing to help species thrive.

Upcoming programs include:

September 28-Merrymeeting Bay: The Rising Tide of Stewardship.
We will be viewing this Mark Ireland production in collaboration with the Cathance River Education Alliance. This film looks at one of the most unique natural resources in the state and how our local community helps keep it preserved.

October 26- Tom Berube: Tom's Avian Taxidermy
Tom is a self-taught Master Taxidermist with an ample supply of his specimens to experiment on. He is constantly developing new techniques and once perfected, he applies them to customer birds. His attention to detail and the natural way he poses the birds are outstanding. Just as all humans are individuals so are birds. No two are exactly alike even though they may look alike.

November 30- Tom Wessels(tentative)
Tom Wessels is an ecologist and founding director of conservational biology at Antioch University in Vermont. He has focused on conserving the environment through green initiatives implemented through forestry. Tom will discuss his books Reading the Forested Landscape: A Natural History of New England, The Granite Landscape: A Natural History of America's Mountain Domes, From Acadia to Yosemite, and The Myth of Progress: Toward a Sustainable Future.
